Statistic outlines how Marcelo Bielsa is fixing Leeds United's early-season issues

Leeds United have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks as they extended their unbeaten run to three against Leicester City on Sunday.

The Whites have endured a difficult start to the season so far with just 11 points from their opening 11 matches as they sit 15th in the Premier League table.

However, with two good performances in both of the 1-1 home draws with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City respectively, as well as a gutsy 2-1 win at Norwich City sandwiched in between, their fortunes appear to be slowly but surely heading in the right direction.

And a statistic that has emerged on social media, perhaps, backs up the improvement that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been shown in the last few weeks.

In the last five Premier League matches, Leeds have faced the fourth fewest number of shots from open play across the whole of the division with 36.

Only Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Manchester City have faced fewer in that timeframe, with the Eagles one of the most in form teams in the division at present, and the other two currently occupying the top two places in the table.

That means Leeds are ahead off the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal despite their disappointing league position.

Another statistic that also proves their defensive progression recently is their open play expected goals against (xGA) in that same time period.

Only Crystal Palace (1.55) have a better record in that department than the Whites, whose total amasses 2.93, better than all of the current highflyers in the division.
