NAGOYA -- Stationery maker Shachihata Inc. has launched trial sales of a new stamp for combating gropers. The stamp uses special ink that, when applied to a groper's hand, can be used to identify that person as the culprit even later on, the Nagoya-based company said.
The stamp is nine millimeters in diameter. It uses invisible ink to stamp the image of a palm, which can be seen under a black light. The product also comes with a black light and a strap to make it easy to carry.
The company began selling a limited run of 500 units via its online store on Tuesday, pricing the stamp at 2,700 yen including tax. Following the trial, it aims to make improvements and then launch regular sales.
Shachihata announced it would develop the stamp on its official Twitter account in May, when social media was abuzz about another product to stop gropers -- a "safety pin" used to prick the hand.
