Statements issued as fire spreads to Nottingham train station building

The emergency services were called to Nottingham train station following reports of a fire that had spread to part of the building.

British Transport Police were called to the station at 5.03am on February 2 following reports of the incident.

One eyewitness said a cordon was put in place near the area that leads up to the tram stop after the fire.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: ‘British Transport Police were called to Nottingham railway station at 5.03am this morning (2 February) following reports of a fire near to the station.

"The fire service also attended, and it was extinguished."

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to the scene at 4.50am this morning.

"It was reports of cardboard on fire outside of the train station that had spread to the train station building.

"Two fire engines from the London Road station attended and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

"An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the fire."
