Statements from Chiefs’ Brett Veach, Andy Reid on signing of JuJu Smith-Schuster

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially announced the signing of former Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster.

A former second-round draft pick out of USC in the 2017 NFL draft, Smith-Schuster joins Kansas City after five seasons of playing in Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old has appeared in 63 NFL games and brings an entirely new dynamic to the Chiefs’ offense opposite Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. The team recruited him when he was a free agent last year and their persistence paid off when he became a free agent again in 2021.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach and HC Andy Reid both provided statements on the addition of Smith-Schuster.

Brett Veach:

“We’re fired up to add JuJu to this offense. He’s a dynamic athlete and a proven play-maker in this league. He’ll be an added threat to our offense, and I know our guys are excited to have him here. I’d like to thank his agent, Chafie Fields, and his team, as well as my staff for helping get this deal done. JuJu will be a great fit here in Chiefs Kingdom.”

Andy Reid:

“My hats off to Brett Veach and his staff for working to get JuJu on board with us. He’s a tremendous competitor, has a lot of passion for the game and a lot of talent to go with it. He’ll be another weapon for our offense. We’re happy to have him here in Kansas City.”
