'Statement win' - Man City fans send Liverpool FC warning after Burnley thrashing

It was "normal service resumed" for Manchester City fans after Saturday's thrashing of Burnley.

Pep Guardiola's men cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Clarets at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Riyad Mahrez scored his first hat-trick for the club, with Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres also on target.

It could have been more as City produced a dominant display that will raise hopes following a mixed start to the season.

This win took last season's runners-up to within six points of reigning champions Liverpool - with a game in hand.

Earlier in the day, Jurgen Klopp's Reds had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Brighton after conceding a late equaliser from the penalty spot.

City fans were able to enjoy themselves, with their game all but won by half-time.

They were impressed by John Stones' performance at the back and goalkeeper Ederson coming out of his goal at one stage to sweep up at left-back.

City now have 15 points from nine league matches this season, with four wins, three draws and two defeats.

Having bounced back from their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, they now gear up for a Champions League group match at Porto in midweek before resuming their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham next Saturday.
