Statement released after reports of Covid outbreak at HMP Nottingham

The Ministry of Justice would not confirm how many prisoners or staff have been struck down with Covid following an outbreak.

Nottinghamshire Live was informed there has been an outbreak of coronavirus at the Perry Road prison which holds male adult prisoners.

In October, the prison confirmed that 10 members of staff and two prisoners had tested positive for Covid-19 at HMP Nottingham.

But it is believed the number has risen since then, but the Ministry of Justice would not confirm an exact number to Nottinghamshire Live.

An MoJ spokesman said: "Our priority is to limit the spread of the virus and protect the lives of those who live and work in our prisons.

"We have taken precautionary measures at Nottingham, in line with public health guidance, and will continue to closely monitor the situation."

The MOJ also stated that safe prison regimes are operating and additional support has been brought in to assist staff.
