'Statement of intent': Bristol City fans react to links with Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu

Bristol City fans have been reacting to the news that the Robins are interested in a late move for Chelsea's young defender Ethan Ampadu.

The Wales international is currently on loan at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, but has played just two league games for them in the league this season, as well as two Champions League appearances.

Chelsea do not have an option to recall him in the loan contract, but with the versatile 19-year-old struggling for first team opportunities, Leipzig could be persuaded to terminate the deal and send him back to England.

Robins fans seem keen for Ampadu to come to the club, with several questioning whether Welsh centre-back Ashley Williams could have an influence in bringing him to the club.

See how the fans reacted below.

@SteveBeatnik: Wow that would be a statement of intent.

@BS3BCFC: Would be a good signing but we don’t want to risk having to many CBs.

Deano Beano: Would be a good signing defensively at the back and midfield if we get another striker in too after Wells signs that's a good window.

@ftbl_gaz: Yes yes yes.

StrawbzGamer: Liking the sound of this.

Si Backwell: Ash Williams influence?

David Lamb: Would be a fantastic signing but it looks unlikely.

Jamie: Ashley Williams will mentor him the right way.

James: Makes me now think we're going back to 5-3-2, esp. with Wells signing, so he'd probably start in back 3.

Ryan Richardson: I love this. But I don’t see it happening given the amount of time left in the window.
