State school gets more Oxbridge offers than Eton with 55 pupils securing spots

A state school has beaten posh private boys college Eton to secure highly sought-after spots at Oxbridge universities.

Brampton Manor, which is rated outstanding by Ofsted, announced on Wednesday that 55 of its pupils were celebrating the offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge.

Eton College, meanwhile, where Boris Johnson studied, saw 48 of its pupils secure places at the prestigious institutions.

On Twitter the academy school, in east London, celebrated its success and called the dozens of offers a 'stunning achievement.'

It said: "Massive congratulations to our class of 2021.

"Despite the Covid pandemic, a record 55 students have shown resilience and determination to secure offers from two of the most prestigious universities in the world: Oxford and Cambridge.

"Well done."

The school added that in just two years, from 2020 to 2021, more than 100 students had received offers to study for the highly competitive courses.

Overjoyed parents and teachers also responded on social media and praised the teenager's achievements.

PE teacher Ms Nelson said: "This is fantastic news! Congratulations. Wishing your students all the best with there results!"

Yasmin Akter said: "I am so proud of my son and so for other students at Brampton. Well done, Brampton is the best."

Amrit Bahia said: "Congratulations to all that have secured a place. You should be very proud.

"I’ve had one child go through each Cambridge and Oxford and I can promise you it will be such an enriching experience. Be inspired!"

Meanwhile, Eton was recently forced to defend its own performance in a letter to parents.

According to The Telegraph deputy head Tom Hawkins said: "Each year we see very strong Etonian applicants disappointed, and unfortunately there have been more boys in this position this year.

"Whilst the admissions process has some way to run, there are strong results at other leading UK universities."
