State police investigate police-involved shooting in Posen

March 10--Posen police early Monday morning shot a man who they said approached them with a knife after officers reponded to a domestic disturbance call, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Posen Police Department, officers went to the 14400 block of Sherman Avenue just after 2 a.m. After they arrived, they were confronted by a man who was carrying a "large kitchen knife." Officers repeatedly told the offender to drop the knife, but when he came toward them with the knife, he was shot, according to the release.

The man who was shot was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and his condition was unknown, police said.

A woman who called police about the domestic disturbance was found safe inside the residence with two children, ages 5 and 6.

The case was turned over to the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force.

Paul Prefontaine, who lives next door to where the shooting took place in the well-kept neighborhood, said he and his wife were sleeping and their son was playing video games when they heard a sound he described as "bang-bang-bang."

He said they looked out their window "and saw the guy down."

Another neighbor, Paul Fortt, said he wasn't aware of the shooting until he prepared to take his wife to work about 3:45 a.m. He said he didn't know the people involved in the incident. "They kept to themselves, pretty much," he said.
