State-run pawnshops are offering one-month interest-free loans to farmers this month to help ease financial pressure during the planting season.
Capt Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn, deputy government spokeswoman, said the scheme is being run by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Office of Government Pawnshop to improve farmers' liquidity and inject more money into local economies.
New customers can receive the benefit by presenting their national ID card along with a farmer identification card or agricultural registration booklet. Existing customers who have already registered as farmers with the Office of Government Pawnshop need only present their national ID card.
Capt Patdarasm said the scheme is intended to help farmers cover production costs, including seeds, fertiliser and pesticides.
