State of play in ex-Bolton Wanderers defender Marcos Alonso's transfer from Chelsea to Barcelona

Former Bolton Wanderers defender Marcos Alonso could still be on the move this transfer window from Chelsea to Barcelona despite the deal stalling in recent weeks.

Alonso joined Wanderers in 2010 from Real Madrid. He went on to play 46 times and score five goals for the club over the next three seasons.

The Spaniard has been at Stamford Bridge since 2017. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Europa League, Uefa Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at the club.

Despite a trophy-laden time at Chelsea, it appears Alonso's time at Stamford Bridge is set to end and he is poised to join Spanish giants Barcelona. He has 29 goals and 211 appearances to his name since joining the London side in 2017.

Despite reports suggesting the move was due to become a reality earlier this month, Alonso is yet to be confirmed as a Barca player. The defender has not played for Chelsea this season so far.

ESPN reports that now Barca will make a last attempt to land Alonso before the end of the transfer window. The Camp Nou club has looked at the potential of signing Javi Galan from Celta Vigo, but now will reportedly look to making another attempt to land Alonso for a transfer fee of around €5m.

Alonso moved to Italian side Fiorentina in the summer of 2013 as moved to the continent despite the offer of a new contract. He scored five goals in 84 games for the club before moving to Chelsea in 2017.

He spent the second half of the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Sunderland. He played 20 times for the Black Cats.
