State of play - how Newcastle United’s morning on deadline day progressed

Newcastle United are yet to receive any bids for fringe first-team players.

After a quiet morning on deadline day, our information is that Newcastle will need to offload a senior player in order to make space for any incoming loan deals.

But sources at United say they were not anticipating any additions on last trading day of the summer.

Of course, that can change at any stage, as previous deadline days have demonstrated, not least January 2011 when Andy Carroll was heading home before being told to board a helicopter for Liverpool.

The one player that is interesting a Premier League club is Sean Longstaff with Everton sniffing around.

But they may wait until January to start talks and agree a pre-contract agreement with his deal is set to expire.

United may look to add to their Under-23 squad today if things fall their way with some deals still active.
