State of Bannockburn playpark labelled as "disgrace" by local resident as council promises action

A Bannockburn mum said she has been forced to stop using her local park because of its “disgraceful” state.

Louise Currie has slammed the condition of Stein Square playpark and has pointed out several issues including an area that has bene caged out for more than a year, swings covered in bird poo and long uncut grass.

She admits it has meant she has taken her own children over to Ladywell Park, despite living closer to the Stein Square development.

Louise believes the condition of the park means it is dangerous for both children and pets.

She told the Observer: “That’s the park we go to and use the most because it is close to us and my two kids, who are five and nine, are always keen to go out.

“Part of the park has been fenced off and nothing has been done about it, there is a section in there where kids can play football and games, but they don’t seem to want to do anything in there.

“The swings have also been unusable and I don’t know if it is a health hazard with all of the germs that are on there with the bird poo.”

A spokesperson for Stirling Council said: “Improvement work at the park has unfortunately been delayed for several reasons, including securing the required materials.

“Temporary fencing is in place at the facility to ensure public safety.

“Work to install new rebound fencing to the multi-games area of the park will start week commencing 26 June. Grass at the facility is scheduled to be cut early next week (W/C 19 June), and a clean of equipment seating has been arranged.

“We understand the resident’s concerns about the park and we will continue to engage with the local community to ensure it meets the highest standards.”
