Starz announces Outlander: Blood of My Blood prequel series

Outlander Blood of My Blood

Starz fans have something exciting to look forward to as the network delves even further back in time with the upcoming prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. This highly anticipated series, consisting of 10 episodes, will take viewers on a journey into the parallel love stories of Jamie and Claire Fraser's parents.

Production for Outlander: Blood of My Blood officially began in Scotland in February 2024, adding to the growing Outlander universe. The original Outlander series, based on Diana Gabaldon's popular historical fantasy novels, premiered on Starz in 2014 and quickly captured the hearts and imaginations of viewers worldwide.

Gabaldon, the author of the Outlander novels, has been teasing fans with the possibility of a prequel for some time. In 2022, she revealed on her blog that she had a prequel novel in the works, tentatively titled 'A Bird in the Hand,' which would focus on Jamie Fraser's parents. The announcement also mentioned that a prequel series had been picked up by Sony and Starz. One year later, in January 2023, Blood of My Blood received the green light for production.

While the exact release date for Outlander: Blood of My Blood has yet to be announced, fans can take comfort in knowing that the series is already in production. The 10-episode season began filming in Scotland in February 2024, promising to transport viewers back in time once again.

In an exciting development for the Outlander fan base, the main cast of Blood of My Blood was announced on February 5. However, it's important to note that the series will predominantly focus on Jamie and Claire's parents, which means actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will not be in the main cast. Harriet Slater, known for her roles in Pennyworth and Belgravia: The Next Chapter, will portray Ellen Mackenzie, while Jamie Roy, from Condor's Nest and Flowers and Honey, takes on the role of Brian Fraser. Hermione Corfield, seen in The Road Dance and We Hunt Together, will star as Julia Moriston, alongside Jeremy Irvine, known for his roles in War Horse and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, as Henry Beauchamp. Slater and Roy will portray Jamie's parents, while Corfield and Irvine will bring Claire's parents to life.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood promises an intriguing narrative rooted in two different time periods. The official description from Starz reveals that the series will explore 'two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in WWI England.'

Outlander showrunner, executive producer, and writer Matthew B. Roberts expressed his excitement for the upcoming series, stating, 'We're thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we're so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.'

Fans of Outlander have certainly been captivated by the epic love story of Jamie and Claire, which has spanned across time and continents. With Outlander: Blood of My Blood, viewers will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the intricate world of these beloved characters and witness the origins of their remarkable families.

As the production progresses, fans eagerly await more updates and, ultimately, the release date for this highly anticipated prequel series. Until then, devotees of the Outlander series can continue to immerse themselves in the rich historical fantasy world that has captivated audiences for years.
