Dominic Lipscombe, director at SweatBox Media Group, explains why the business should win the Startup of the Year category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition:
SweatBox Media Group started as just a simple music events promoter in January 2015, with our first show being May of the same year.
It started out from the simple thought that Liverpool does not really cater much towards the electronic dance music side of house music any more – and so rather than sit by, I did something about it.
Since our inception, we’ve brought huge names to Liverpool: Dimitri Vangelis and Wyman, DubVision & Julian Jordan, to name but a few. More recently, I have taken on a business partner who shares my vision and also has the ability to take SweatBox to places that before seemed impossible, through means of investment.
Living in the same city as Cream, we have really gone up against it in terms of competition, but, in less than a year, we have amassed a huge, loyal following that purchase tickets before any hint of a line up has been released.
At the the time of writing, we have 4,135 Facebook fans and 3,838 Twitter followers. We are currently advertising for our 26 February show, which is selling exceedingly well. Our last two events – Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve – were both complete sell outs.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
