Based: Isle of Lewis

My husband and I have launched a game cookery and shooting lifestyle brand that generates income from sporting and cookery breaks, pop-up restaurants, publications and branded products.

Initially running a cookery and shoot report blog in our free time from September 2013, we branched out into game pop-up restaurants and secured a book deal on advising how to run them.

We established my husband as an expert writing for shooting and food and drink titles, and offered our services free at industry events to gain exposure to our potential client base.

We now lease a sporting lodge in Scotland where we run shooting, fishing and game cookery courses for our brand followers (of which there are currently more than 9,000).

We are about to launch The Shotgun Chef branded food products and equipment at the 2015 CLA Game Fair, and have been in talks with a production company about a possible cookery series about living off the land. Our estimated turnover this year is £48,000 and this has all been achieved through hard work, time, energy and strategic planning, rather than a large capital investment.

Abigail Alldis is director of The Shotgun Chef
