We launched Ormsby Street and our flagship product, CreditHQ, a ‘freemium’ credit rating platform designed for small businesses, in February 2014.
In 2015 we plan on entering our first international markets and doubling our user base. To maximise our visibility, we therefore adopted an aggressive marketing strategy, incorporating a range of tactics from print and digital advertising, to sponsoring key events such as Silicon Drinkabout and securing speaking opportunities at trade shows including New Start Scotland and FinTech Week London.
We also implemented a PR programme resulting in numerous features in SME trade titles such as smallbusiness.co.uk, Real Business and Talk Business, commenting on topics including payment terms and cashflow management. This complements the success of our popular insights blog, which averages 2,000 visits a day.
Combined with our continuous efforts to improve the platform, we have excelled in enabling SMEs to access previously elusive financial insights to make more informed business decisions and better manage their funds.
In fact, we now have over 25,000 companies registered with us, who last year sent 5,860 solicitors’ letters via CreditHQ, chasing £13m worth of bad debt and reported a 36% lower failure rate compared to businesses that don’t monitor for credit changes.
Our eagerness to expand has been recognised by the UKTI who, following a competitive application process, selected Ormsby Street to showcase at SxSW 2015 as part of a small UK delegation. We’ve already hired a further three members of staff to keep up with demand.
