Jewellery 4 Enterprise is a social enterprise born out of my passion to help women in business. The idea was for women to donate their unwanted fashion jewellery to me and I would sell it and use the money to fund grants for women in business. I started my business in a shed shop in Steyning in August 2014.
To raise funds for my first grant I put together an event in September last year which I sold tickets for, invited local celebrities and held an auction and raffle; I managed to raise my first £500 for in September 2014. I presented this to a local businesswoman who makes her own skincare, but in order to be able to sell it in a shop she needed to get the creams certified safe; I’m pleased to say she used her grants for this and is well on her way to growing her business.
I still wanted to do more to support local small businesses so decided I would attempt to raise funds to open a gift shop with a difference on the high street. The gift shop would rent low-cost shelving units to other small businesses and 10% of the overall sales would be reinvested back into the community to support local independent charities and community projects. To do this, I crowdfunded and raised over £5,000 for the costs required to secure the shop, which is due to open on 7th February, and will provide high street space to 12 other small businesses.
