Startling footage shows water pouring through roof at Leith Asda during weekend floods

Shoppers at Asda in Leith did well to avoid a serious drenching after water came pouring through the roof during the weekend flooding.

A shocking video, which has been shared thousands of times on social media, shows rainwater flooding into the Sandpiper Place store on Saturday evening.

Those stocking up on essentials can only look on in disbelief as the chilled goods section is soaked.

The Asda store remains open, and a spokesperson said: “Due to the heavy rain fall over the weekend there was a leak at our Leith store. Thanks to the quick response and hard work from our colleagues the store is back running as normal, but we would like to apologies to any customers for the inconvenience caused.”

Edinburgh Live reported at the weekend that heavy rainfall caused flooding in parts of the city and East Lothian – with Musselburgh among the areas worst hit.

Photos posted on social media showed debris and wheelie bins floating down streets, while part of North High Street was totally submerged.

Flooding was continuing to cause problems in the Edinburgh area this morning with ScotRail services disrupted by water on the tracks at Winchburgh tunnel.
