Starting XI hint & Lo Celso's presence - what we learned from Spurs training ahead of Man United

It is really starting to feel real. Tottenham are set to kick off their season against Manchester United and the final preparations are coming together.

Jose Mourinho of course led training on Thursday at Hotspur way as the players went through the motions to help build them up to start the return to Premier League against the Red Devils.

There will be no time for slow starts if Spurs harbour hopes of Champions League qualification and three points against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side would really make a statement.

The impact of loss of match day income on Spurs

Here's what we noticed from the supply of Tottenham photographs released:

Giovani Lo Celso photos

The focus of so much training ground investigation in recent weeks. Lo Celso did not appear in any images from the in-house friendly or in the two-hour training game against Norwich.

He has been seen on the training pitches since but often training alone and isolated, taking part in stretching routines.

The Argentine international's fitness struggles were detailed by Mourinho on Thursday: "Yes. I can confirm that. Gio, I consider to be one of the victims of the rules and one of the victims of the protocols, because he was injured in the end of the period before the coronavirus situation.

"He was in very bad conditions in the last three or four matches. He didn't play against Burnley, he played for 10 minutes and then we tried to have him ready for Leipzig but he wasn't even ready for Leipzig.

"Because of the rules his injury is not an injury in need for surgery but needed treatment and daily treatment, needed close contact with physios and fitness coaches working with him but that was not possible. For about two months he was injured and he couldn't recover from it."

The boss did note that Lo Celso would be 'available for tomorrow' though was less sure of his ability to play a full match.

The pictures certainly seem to back this up with the midfielder shown with a group of green-bibbed Spurs players. That contingent included Dele Alli who is unable to play against Manchester United due to suspension but perhaps Lo Celso still has a chance.

Youngsters involved again

Jose Mourinho has a reputation for not being the most proficient at bringing through young talent but he certainly appears to be giving a crop of Lilywhites their opportunity to mix with some top talent.

The intense fixture list could provide plenty of opportunities as Harvey White and Dennis Cirkin were involved again alongside the likes of Oliver Skipp.

Starting line-up hint?

You don't want to read too much into training ground photographs but when you see 10 outfield players in the same coloured bib your mid ca't help but wonder if those players will make up the starting team. While Lo Celso was seen in a green bib like Harvey White, those in the pink bibs counted the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min among their ranks.

The 10 players in pink were: Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertoghen, Eric Dier, Gedson Fernandes, Tanguy Ndombele, Oliver Skipp, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Not a bad team but it would likely require Sissoko to take his place on the wing where many would expect Steven Bergwijn to line up, while it would also have Eric Dier slotting into defence ahead of Davinson Sanchez.

Sissoko, Kane and Son have all been confirmed to start by Mourinho however. Dier still does have his FA charge hanging over him however.
