Starting linebackers finally take the field together in win over Chargers

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. has been waiting all summer to see his starting linebackers on the field together. He finally got the chance Saturday night against the Chargers.

Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks all got the start for Seattle in Los Angeles. Wagner (two tackles on the night) and Wright (one tackle) both made their preseason debuts and stayed in the game for a number of series. Kendricks finished his outing as the team’s second-leading tackler with three.

“It was exciting for me to see Bobby and K.J. and Mychal on the field at the same time,” coach Pete Carroll said in his post-game press conference. “Mychal made a couple beautiful plays – I can’t tell you a bunch about it – but just to have those guys out there running the show is something that’s really important to us. I think it’s going to be a real strength of our club.

“That was kind of their debut, and they’ll be ready for the opening.”

The starters aren’t likely to see much – if any – time in Seattle’s final preseason game of the summer this Thursday night against the Raiders.
