Start your engines! RuPaul's Drag Race UK is coming to BBC Three

RuPaul’s Drag Race is headed to the UK next year - and they're looking for local drag queens to take on the eight-part series.

The award-winning show has found a digital home on BBC Three, with casting officially underway for “Queens of Great Britain”.

In a statement, RuPaul said: “It is a dream come true to extend our royal family to the United Kingdom with our partners at BBC Three.

“I am beyond excited to celebrate the massive charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent of the Queen’s queens.”

The US series has been judged by RuPaul himself alongside Michelle Visage and a host of celebrity guests and regulars.

Contestants complete in individual or team Maxi Challenges. The bottom two each week take part in a Lip Sync battle, which sees the loser “Sashay Away”.

It is thought that the UK version will follow the same format, but with some added “British twists”.

A source told The Sun: “This is a massive coup for the Beeb as lots of other UK channels wanted this show. It will follow the exact same format as the American version with British twists and some famous guests.”

They added that there will be a “huge” budget for costumes and production of the series.
