‘Start saving money’: Butcher teaches customer to find premium cuts for less. Then shows exactly which part to buy

Given the current state of the U.S. saving money is a top priority. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop eating good food. Fortunately we can always rely on random strangers on TikTok to provide us with some pretty neat money saving tricks.

Food is expensive and it’s only getting pricier. If you’re looking for some quality steak on a budget then luckily the TikTok account, “Meatdad” has got you covered. The Meatdad’s content centers around, you guessed it, meat. Be it pork, beef, steak, you name it. The man behind the account has all kinds of useful tips for cooking and preparing meat-based meals.

Meatdad’s money saving advice

According to Meatdad, one specific cut of chuck eye steak is great for meat-eaters who want some rib eye steak without paying for such an expensive cut. While filming his video for TikTok he explains to another customer in the meat section, that there is one piece per chuck which is right next to the rib eye.

You can see in the video what it looks like. Meatdad goes on to explain that one side is right next to the rib eye while the other side is called a “Denver steak.” Apparently, if you split them you can cook one side like a rib eye and it will be “one of the best steaks you ever have.”

Saving money never tasted so good

The chucky eye has often been referred to as the “poor man’s rib eye,” but that doesn’t mean it has to be any less delicious. Meatdad shows that it’s possible to save money but still have a tasty meal at the same time. While the video is informative and helpful, not everyone agrees.

Unfortunately the price of chuck eye has gone up in recent years. In the comments one person wrote, “I used to buy Chuck eye for $5/lb when rib eye was $10-$13. Now butchers are selling the Chuck eye for only a couple bucks less than ribeye.” Another added, “I cry for the days when I first bought chuck eye. 3.99lbs now it’s 12.99lb.” A third added, “The only thing your gonna do is make them raise the prices on the chuck roast.”

It seems the chuck eye is no longer the “poor man’s rib eye,” but it is still a noticeable amount cheaper. At least for now. Meatdad’s tips could certainly help people save even a little bit of money and in the long run it all adds up.
