PLANS have been approved for 141 new houses on the Kingswood development at Broomhall, to the south-west of Dunfermline.

Taylor Wimpey have got the go-ahead to build on Lord Elgin's land as part of a much larger scheme that will eventually deliver 2150 homes and two new primary schools, as well as shops, parks, employment units and healthcare facilities.

It will become known as "Dunfermline’s New City Quarter" and, in time, it's expected that around 4,700 people will live there.

Pauline Mills, technical director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have received detailed planning consent for our development at Kingswood.

"This approval allows us to move forward with creating a high-quality, sustainable community that reflects our long-term commitment to the Fife area."

Fife Council have approved this first phase of housebuilding, not far from Pitreavie Business Park, which will see Taylor Wimpey build a mix of two, three, four, and five-bedroom properties.

They will also provide more than two acres of open space, new pedestrian and cycle links to the existing networks around the city, and 'green connections' to the surrounding area.

Ms Mills added: "Our development has a strong focus on biodiversity and sustainability, with features such as bird boxes, bee-friendly planting and solar PV panels on every home.

"We’re proud to be contributing to the broader Kingswood vision, which will ultimately provide homes, schools, green spaces, and economic opportunities for thousands of people.

“Along with an impressive range of new homes, our proposed development will also provide a range of economic benefits for the local Dunfermline area.

"This includes supporting new jobs for every year of construction and attracting new customers to local businesses from those who choose to live in one of the new homes this development aims to deliver.”

Stirling Developments Ltd received planning permission in principle for the wider Kingswood masterplan development in December 2018, taking inspiration from The Grand Plan for Dunfermline that was unveiled more than 100 years ago.

Taylor Wimpey are the chosen housebuilder for the first phase.

The masterplan includes two primary schools, shops, employment and commercial units, as well as healthcare facilities, parks and green spaces.

A quarter of the properties will be affordable homes and it's expected that more than 7,000 jobs will be created.
