Starsky & Hutch 'set for TV comeback' as 1970s cop show gets 'all-female reboot'

Starsky & Hutch is reportedly returning to TV screens soon as the 1970s cop classic is said to get an 'all-female reboot' with 'two women in title roles'.

Much like Ghostbusters and Ocean's 8, the show being "redeveloped" with female leads and is set to follow female detectives Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn spilled all on the upcoming series and says he is expecting at least two scripts from writers Sam Sklaver and Elizabeth Peterson.

Known for Prodigal Son and The Resident respectfully, Michael explained that he will review the scripts before making a final decision on the reboot.

He is said to have told The Hollywood Reporter of the plans, with the outlet reporting that Fox Entertainment are producing the series with Sony Pictures Television.

The new Starsky & Hutch is reported "one of a handful of projects" in Fox’s development pipeline, including a new medical drama titled Doc.

The cop show comeback is a "modern reimagining" and will follow Sasha and Nicole as they "solve crimes in the offbeat town of Desert City", per the US outlet.

Starsky and Hutchinson will be "trying to unravel the mystery behind who sent their fathers to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit".

The original series, which ran from 1975-79 on ABC, starred David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser in the title roles and Antonio Fargas as Huggy Bear, the two detectives' informant.

William Blinn was its original brains, and the show featured its iconic cherry-red Ford Gran Torino with a white stripe across its sides and roof.

It is hoped the classic car will make a return for its all-female return.

The news comes after original series star David admitted that he actually wanted to switch roles with his co-star Michael, hoping to portray Starsky and not Hutch.

"When [Paul] walked into the audition of Starsky & Hutch, was I Hutch? I wanted the other part as I thought mine was pretty boring," he admitted while appearing on ITV's This Morning.

David explained at the time: "I told the producers, but they said no you're blonde and he’s the curly-haired one so it needs to be this way."
