Stars urge parents to teach Shakespeare saying 'kids must make much ado about Bard'

Stars including Hugh Bonneville, Billie Piper and Adrian Lester have backed calls for parents to use Shakespeare to help parents teach their kids during the lockdown.

The Bard's plays and characters feature in free teaching materials for English, maths, science, history, art, geography, history, music and PE by The Primary Shakespeare Company.

Downton Abbey actor Hugh, 56, said: "Now - especially now - opportunities for children to maintain their sense of creativity are essential.

"The Primary Shakespeare Company has moved swiftly to adapt to the online-only world so that they can continue to inspire primary children to express themselves by exploring the plays of Shakespeare."

Doctor Who star Billie, 37, added: "I struggled in school. Drama changed everything - it gave me a passion.

"I know there are so many children feeling the same way, especially during these tough times, and this is why what The Primary Shakespeare Company is doing is so important."

And Adrian, 51, said: "A child's passion for creativity doesn't have to be locked down with the rest of us."

PSC's Neil Carter said: "We hope [people] will take advantage of our fun new resources."
