Stars pay tribute after Mark Chapman’s wife Sara dies aged 44

Dan Walker and Simon Thomas have shared messages of condolence following the death of presenter Mark Chapman’s wife Sara at the age of 44.

On Sunday night, it was confirmed that Sara died following a long period of illness last Wednesday.

Mark is best-known to sports fans for hosting Match of the Day 2 and also presents BBC Radio 5Live’s Saturday afternoon football show. He and Sara have three children together.

Walker tweeted: “When Chappers found out that my dad was diagnosed with cancer last year, he was so kind and thoughtful. He was also honest about the effects of cancer on his wife.

“His words and advice were incredibly helpful. Sending all my love to Mark and his young family.”

Thomas, whose wife Gemma died in November 2017, wrote: “Thoughts very much with @markchapman and his kids tonight.

“Life has dealt them a very tough blow but have no doubt, given the support he showed me a two-and-a-half, that he’ll hold that family together.”

Piers Morgan, former referee Mark Clattenburg and ex-footballer Trevor Sinclair also shared their condolences:

Mark has worked for the BBC, appearing both on the radio and on television, since 1996.

He and his family live in Hale, Greater Manchester.
