Stars of Friends lead tributes to James Michael Tyler after sad passing aged 59

Jennifer Aniston has penned an emotional tribute to Friends co-star James Michael Tyler after the actor who played Gunther died on Sunday.

The star passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles following a battle with stage 4 prostate cancer.

Shortly after the news was announced, Jennifer, who played Gunther's love interest Rachel Green, shared a fitting post on her Instagram account thanking James for all the laughter they shared over the years.

The 52-year-old said: "Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be so missed #JamesMichaelTyler"

Alongside her sweet words, Jennifer posted a popular scene of the pair from the sitcom as Gunther bid farewell to Rachel.

Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller, followed suit shortly after, writing: "The size of gratitude you brought into the room and showed every day on set is the size of the gratitude I hold for having known you. Rest In peace James."

Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc also took to the social media platform to share their condolences.

Lisa, who starred as Phoebe Buffay in the sitcom, wrote: "James Michael Tyler, we will miss you. Thank you for being there for us all. #jamesmichealtyler."

Matt, who played the charismatic Joey Tribbiani, penned: "We had a lot of laughs buddy. You will be missed. RIP my friend."

Maggie Wheeler also paid tribute to her co-star. The actress best known for her role as Janice - and her laugh - on Friends wrote: ""I am thankful to have had the chance to know this kind and gentle man. In recent years James and I enjoyed working alongside one another doing PR for various Friends events and I’m very grateful for the time we spent together.

"I am so sad to hear of his passing and my thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.#jamesmichaeltyler"
