Stars In Their Eyes legend Matthew Kelly was once nearly killed on set by disco ball

"Tonight, Matthew, I’m going to be Gloria Gaynor, singing I Will Survive..."

Former Stars in Their Eyes host Matthew Kelly was almost killed on the set of the karaoke competition by a falling disco ball.

The presenter, 71, had to be evacuated from the studio after disaster struck as he approached the stage, where a contestant was about to rehearse their disco hit.

“As I stepped on to stage, this giant mirror ball fell from the ceiling and smashed into a million pieces at exactly the spot where I would have been standing two seconds later,” gulps Matthew.

“It would have killed me. We were all dismissed from the studio.

“I said, imagine the papers the next day: ‘Matthew Kelly killed in terrible glitterball tragedy.

“It’s the way he would have wanted to go.’”

But not everybody saw the funny side on set...

“I got told off for laughing because health and safety went mental,” he recalls on the My Time Capsule podcast. “I thought it was hilarious.”

Matthew said he “loved” hosting the series, which he fronted from 1993-2004.

A rebooted format of the show is due to return to ITV, hosted by Olly Murs under the new name Starstruck next year.

Kim Kardashian

She might look blue in this bodysuit dress, but Kim Kardashian is actually delighted to have passed her first round of law school exams.

The reality star is set to follow in the footsteps of her late father, Robert, who was part of the “Dream Team” of lawyers who defended OJ Simpson in 1995.

Kim, who says her dad “would have been my biggest cheerleader”, celebrated her success by doing her favourite thing in the world: posing for pictures.

Let her have her moment.
