Stars in Edinburgh as filming begins on smash hit Amazon show Good Omens

A number of roads in Edinburgh have been shut as filming begins for the second series of Good Omens.

Amazon announced earlier this year that they would be filming the fantasy comedy series entirely in Scotland, with a lot of the production taking place in Edinburgh.

Now, filming has started and the streets and roads around the Stockbridge area are looking a little busier than normal.

Locals reported online that fencing has been erected around Carrington Road, leading to its closure between Fettes Avenue and East Fettes Avenue but the City of Edinburgh Council say that it will reopen tomorrow (November 4).

The show, based on the book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, is expected to be released at some point in 2022 and locals will be able to spot some famous Edinburgh landmarks during season two of the hit show.

The filming follows on from the critical success of the first season of the show in 2019.

Local actor, David Tennant, from Bathgate, stars in the show and Scottish executive producer Douglas Mackinnon was said to be instrumental in bringing the six part series to Scotland.

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson said: “The Scottish Government and our agencies are committed to strengthening support for the creative industries in Scotland. Securing major screen productions like this will create high-quality creative jobs and help promote economic growth.”

Isabel Davis, Screen Scotland’s Executive Director said: “Douglas Mackinnon has been instrumental in bringing this series to Scotland and it’s been a pleasure to support Amazon, Douglas and his team in setting up here.

“This is a transformational moment for the Scottish industry, with momentum building across the country through increasing large scale productions using our highly respected crew base and rich depth and variety of locations to a global audience.”
