Stars around the world to ditch their plush houses for one night to fight homelessness in cities including Dublin

Mega stars around the globe are ditching their plush pads for one night to fight homelessness.

Celebs, who are more at home with five-star luxury, will curl up in sleeping bags for The World’s Big Sleep Out.

Crowds are set to huddle together in major cities across the world on December 7, including Dublin, in a bid to rake in millions for charity.

Screen star Helen Mirren will kick off the flagship event in London.

The Oscar winner will read a bedtime story to the crowd before they bunk down on the city’s streets.

She said: “I am pleased to have this opportunity to make a contribution by performing a bedtime story for participants in London, which will also be screened at sleep-out events happening throughout the world”.

The actress wants to make sure that this time the spotlight is on the victims of the housing crisis.

She said: “The World’s Big Sleep Out campaign will play an important role in shining the political spotlight on the issues of homelessness and displacement, whilst raising considerable funds to make a big difference.”

Cash from the Dublin sleep-out will stay in Ireland.

Half of the collection will go to Depaul and the remainder will be handed over to an international organisation working with displaced people.

Globally, more than 100 million people don’t have a roof over their heads, according to the Institute of Global Homelessness.

Volunteers who can’t catch any shut-eye will have a host of famous singers to keep them company during the early hours.

Billed as “Buskers”, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see iconic musicians perform rare, stripped back performances.

Across the Atlantic, Hollywood legend Will Smith will lend his famous voice to the campaign when he recites a story at bedtime.

The goal is to raise millions internationally from the campaign, that is spearheaded by founder of social enterprise Social Bite Josh Littlejohn.

If volunteers live far from one of the organised events, they can choose to host their own sleep-out.
