Starmer stands firm against Trump’s criticism on immigration and North Sea oil

Sir Keir Starmer has stood firm against Donald Trump’s criticism of UK immigration and the North Sea.

Speaking to the BBC on Thursday (23 April), the prime minister doubled down on acting in the “best national interest” and vowed not to be “diverted or deflected” when it came to making decisions for the country.

Trump had told the broadcaster that the UK, among other allies, should have given the US more support over Iran, adding that Sir Keir could only “recover” politically if he “opened the North Sea” and cracked down on immigration.

Starmer responded: “I’m here to serve the British people always, to have their interests and to make sure that I make the right decisions for them.”
