Starmer in Bootle as Labour Party Conference gets into full swing

Labour leader Keir Starmer paid a visit to Bootle as his party's conference in Liverpool got into full swing.

Having opened the conference with a tribute to the late Queen, the party leader took time away to visit residents in Bootle with shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves. The pair were visiting a social housing site that has been the subject of an insulation project.

The houses are some of those to have benefitted from a £60m investment by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority aimed at retrofitting homes and enabling homeowners to buy solar panels and battery storage to cut down their bills.

Ms Reeves, who was on the visit, will be the keynote speaker at the conference today. She will set out what an incoming Labour government's approach to the economy would be, including its green agenda.

The following day it will be the turn of Mr Starmer to really try and convince the country that he is the right man to beat the Tories at the next General Election and win the keys to 10 Downing Street. Labour are enjoying strong polling at the moment and he will hope to capitalise on that.
