Starlink Edinburgh: the exact time the amazing satellite train will be visible in the Lothians

Elon Musk's constellation of Starlink satellites will be visible over Edinburgh tonight, and the forecasted clear skies will make it (hopefully) quite easy to see them.

The satellite 'train' has been causing quite a stir in the UK recently: they form a constellation of thousands of satellites, and are designed to provide low-cost broadband internet service from low Earth orbit.

The satellites have been visible all week, with reports of sightings across the UK. It's the perfect activity to enjoy from home as we continue to stay in.

But if you haven't managed to spot the satellites, you'll be happy to hear that you'll have another chance tonight.

Tonight, the satellites are expected to be visible above Edinburgh at around both 9.09pm and 4.14am.

The Starlink tracking website suggests looking from west to east to see the chain of lights.

If you miss them tonight and tomorrow morning, they will also be visible at several other times between now and 28 April.

You can see them from Edinburgh on Saturday 25 April at 9.45pm.

Then on Sunday 26 April at 4.49am.

Then again on 28 April at 4.25am.

How to track the Starlink satellites

If you want to track the satellites in real-time, you can visit the Find Starlink website.

The site allows you to view the satellites’ location in real-time on a map, or input your location to see exactly when the satellites will be visible from your home.

Results are filtered based on how bright the satellites will be, so make sure you're looking at those listed as ‘Bright'.

What are the Starlink satellites?

Elon Musk hopes the satellites will bring low-cost internet to remote areas on Earth.

Starlink explained: “With performance that far surpasses that of traditional satellite internet, and a global network unbounded by ground infrastructure limitations, Starlink will deliver high speed broadband internet to locations where access has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable.”
