Stark warning after two people 'drift out to sea' on inflatable rings in Blackpool

A stark warning has been issued after two people 'drifted out to sea' on inflatable rings in Blackpool.

A rescue operation was launched after the two dinghies were spotted drifting out into the water at around 7.10pm last night (Monday), LancsLive reports.

Lytham coastguard attended and found that it was two inflatable rings with one person on each.

RNLI Blackpool arrived at the scene shortly after and rescued them to the shore of the popular resort.

The pair were then treated by paramedics.

A warning has now been issued about the dangers of using inflatables in open water.

A spokesperson for Lytham Coastguard said: "We were called out at 19.09 to reports of persons on dinghies drifting out to sea, we quickly arrived on scene and discovered it was two inflatable rings with one person on each, RNLI Blackpool arrived on scene shortly after and recovered them to shore.

"Our volunteers then relocated to the boathouse and assisted with medical care until the arrival of North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

"Once they arrived, both casualties were passed into the paramedics care to be checked over.

"Inflatables are NOT for the sea!

"Keep Inflatables for the pool, not open water!"
