StarCraft: Remastered gets a fun makeover

StarCraft is back! This time it gets a new coat of paint through adorable cartoon graphics.

Carbot Animations, the team that has worked with Blizzard on a bunch of parody cartoons for StarCraft, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft, is bringing its cartoonish style to StarCraft: Remastered with an official graphics pack.

StarCraft: Remastered was released in August 2017.

The game is a “full graphical upgrade” of the 1998 original and its expansion, Brood War. StarCraft: Remastered features widescreen high-definition visuals — up to 4K resolution — as well as higher fidelity music and sound.

Other new features, including matchmaking, leader boards, cloud saves for campaign progress, hotkey customization, and game replays, were also added to the classic real-time strategy game.

The new DLC does not add any new gameplay or mechanical content to the StarCraft Remastered package.

Instead, it transforms every single graphical element in the game, from menus to sprites to between-mission briefings into a retro-styled cartoon.

The problem with this fun modification?

Its price: £8.99, it's a little expensive for what is essentially a skin.

If it is obvious that this represents graphic and animation work but with little else on offer, some players might find it hard to justify.

StarCraft: Cartooned is available now on the Blizzard Shop. StarCraft: Remastered is required to play.
