Starbucks released an app that means you will never wait in line again

The lattes will return to UK stores on 1st September (Starbucks)

The days of waiting in never-ending Starbucks queues are over.

Starbucks has released a mobile app feature called Mobile Order and Pay across the US. It allows customers to preorder and pay for food and beverages before they get to the store, skipping queues of caffeine-deprived people.

“Bringing Mobile Order and Pay to our customers is about meeting their needs of convenience and customization at any time of the day,” said Adam Brotman, Starbucks chief digital officer in a statement.

Following the initial test of the app in Portland, Oregon in December 2014, Starbucks expanded the program to 3,400 additional stores across 17 states in the US earlier this summer. The app is now available at more than 7,400 stores in the US.

All Starbucks customers in the US can now use the app for iOS or Android to order, customise their drinks and pay, wherever they are in the country.

The app then gives an estimated time frame for the order to be ready. Customers are not able to select a pick up time.

Smartphone orders will be added to the queue like any other in-store request. Starbucks sees this as another way to drive consumer engagement and increase the number signed up to to its loyalty programme and Starbucks card.
