Starbucks looks set to open new coffee shop near Bristol

Starbucks appears to be lining up a new branch at a shopping park in Longwell Green.

A planning application has been submitted to South Gloucestershire Council for a site at Gallagher Retail Park, seeking permission for new signage for the coffee shop giant.

The five internally illuminated signs would show the "green and white Starbucks logo", according to the plans.

Drawings submitted to the council suggest there would be a seating area outside, but it is not clear if there would be a drive-thru function.

Plans were published on the council's website on Monday (March 8) and the applicant is named as Cobra Coffee, which is a Starbucks franchise operating in the UK.

Its website states: "We have a number of Starbucks sites across the south and south west of England with ambitious plans for growth over the next three years across Berkshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, East Sussex, South Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Somerset, Surrey, West Sussex, Wiltshire and south London."

The address for the application is listed as Unit 1, Aldermoor Way, but the map submitted to the council is not clearly labelled to show what is currently there.

It appears to sit on a corner of the retail park, next to the Kingsfield Roundabout.

When contacted by Bristol Live, Starbucks declined to confirm if it is indeed planning a branch at that location.

A spokesperson said: "We are always looking for new locations and opportunities to bring the Starbucks Experience to customers in the UK, but at this time we have no updates to share about plans at Longwell Green.”

There was no mention on the planning documents of a potential opening date.

Last year a developer won planning permission on appeal to build two 24-hour drive-thrus in Bradley Stoke, one for a McDonald’s and one for a Starbucks.

That branch is not yet listed on Starbucks's online store finder, with the only current branch in South Gloucestershire listed as being at the Village Hotel in Filton.

The Longwell Green retail park is already home to big brands including Outfit, Marks & Spencer, River Island, New Look and Boots, and a new Lidl store opened there last year.

There are also plans to rebuild the neighbouring industrial estate, potentially building up to three new restaurant spaces plus employment space.
