Starbucks launch limited edition mermaid cookies - and it's for a very good cause

Starbucks are now selling incredible-looking limited-edition Mermaids Cookies in selected chains across the UK.

The new sweet treat is shaped like a mermaid's tail and comes decorated in pretty blue and purple icing, with a portion of money raised from the sale of the new menu item going to the charity, Mermaids.

Starbucks has teamed up with family-run bakery Cakehead to design the cookie, which is made from a buttery shortbread and glazed with icing using natural colourings for its striking blue and purple decoration.

Each cookie is priced at £1.89, with 50p from the price going straight to charity.

The Mermaids charity provides support to young transgender people and their families, and the coffee chain has pledged to raise £100,000 to help with the costs of running the charity's helpline services.

Starbucks are encouraging customers to show support for the money-raising campaign on social media by striking a pose with their cookie and posting the photo using the #whatsyourname.

But the new cookie isn't the only new item appearing on the menu to kick-start 2020.

At the beginning of the year, Starbuck's rolled out a number of new food and drink items, including a trio of Blonde Macchiato flavours.

The classic coffees, priced fro £2.95, offer customers a smoother, lighter roast and are made using an espresso shot with steamed milk and a dash of flavoured syrup.

There have also been a number of new food items with lots of vegan options, including smoky jackfruit and grains bowl dish and chocolate and coconut overnight oats.
