Starbucks customer's fury after she's branded 'Hippo' on her coffee cup

A Starbucks customer was frothing mad after ‘Hippo’ was written on her coffee cup.

Nadia Khan, 25, was asked for her name by the barista when she ordered her Cookies & Cream Frappuccino.

The admin-worker said: “When I got my drink, I noticed ‘Hippo’ but I dismissed it as really bad writing.”

Yet her mother Andria “went absolutely ballistic” and confronted the staff member at their local Starbucks branch in Feltham, West London, last Monday.

Nadia said: “Mum told him he should treat customers with respect, no matter how skinny, fat or whatever.”

In response to Nadia complaining the slur was “grotesquely unprofessional", Starbucks said they had apologised to her directly.

A spokesman said: “We have a longstanding tradition of connecting with our customers by writing their names on our cups.

“This incident is not indicative of the welcoming environment we aim to provide in our stores, and have apologised to the customer directly.

“We are working closely with the store team to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
