Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker footage contains Darth Vader easter egg

The latest television spot from a galaxy far far away has some interesting easter eggs.

The new footage, entitled "End", gives us another look at the final instalment in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.

The last episode in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars films is sure to be epic, with the battle between the Resistance and the First Order set to come to an almighty end.

However, the latest clip includes some intriguing references to the past, with Rey ( Daisy Ridley ) in a ship with her adversary Supreme Leader Kylo Ren/Ben Solo ( Adam Driver ) and sharing a shot with the melted/damaged helmet of Ben's grandfather, Darth Vader.

The iconic villain's helmet was previously worshipped by Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens.

Previous trailers showed Rey and Ren destroying something together which seems to be confirmed to be Vader's helmet in this new footage.

Could Ren be about to embrace his good side?

Meanwhile, director J.J. Abrams has explained the return of the second Death Star in the new film, which has been glimpsed in trailers as ruins on a stormy ocean-filled landscape.

Abrams told Entertainment Weekly : "It felt like going into the haunted house, the place that you have to go to.

"This is a story of people having to grapple with the burden the prior generation dumps on those that follow. So literally returning to this wreck of the past and having to fight it out felt like an obvious metaphor, but also felt incredibly cinematic."

Will the ruins of the Death Star be where we see the comeback of Emperor Palpatine ( Ian McDiarmid )?

All will be revealed soon.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
