The journey is almost at its end.
The final chapter in the central Star Wars film series - being labelled the Skywalker saga - is finally here with Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.
The film serves not only as the conclusion of the modern sequel trilogy but also the end of all three trilogies based on the iconic movie family.
As the battle between the Resistance and the First Order reaches its cataclysmic conclusion, we can rest assured it will be one epic final battle.
But who is actually in the J.J. Abrams film The Rise of Skywalker?
Here is what you need to know.
Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker cast
Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa

Despite passing away in 2016, Carrie Fisher returns in her iconic role as Leia Organa through the use of unused footage from The Force Awakens.
J.J. Abrams told ComicBook.Com : "So it was easy to find those pieces and identify them and choose takes and look at them and see what we had. Then it was about reverse engineering those scenes and writing everything around it.
"Then when we shot the pieces, lighting everything around Carrie so that we were never using a kind of digital Carrie, we were always using her in her performance."
Leia remains the leader of the Resistance and a spiritual guide to Rey.
Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker

Despite being 'killed off' and becoming one with the Force at the end of The Last Jedi , Mark Hamill reprises his role as Luke Skywalker here.
Will he be a Force Ghost guide to Rey?
Adam Driver as Supreme Leader Kylo Ren/Ben Solo

The Marriage Story star returns as the conflicted villain that is Kylo Ren, who remains connected to both Rey and his mother Leia despite now leading the fascist First Order.
Will he redeem himself before the saga ends?
Daisy Ridley as Rey

British star Daisy Ridley returns as the apprentice of Luke Skywalker and seemingly the last hope of the Jedi and the Light Side of the Force.
If she saves the galaxy, could it come at a high price?

Abrams told Vanity Fair that we will learn more about Finn's origins in the new film: “It is part of the story of this one."
Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron

The Ex Machina star reprises his role as the greatest star-pilot in the galaxy to help his friends Finn and Rey in the new battle.

Lady Macbeth actress Ackie plays the role of Resistance warrior Jannah.
The character is armed with a bow and arrow and shares many scenes with both Finn and Rey.

This time around he struggles against both Kylo Ren and a new colleague in the First Order hierarchy.

The Oscar-winner reprises her role as the ancient space pirate and Resistance ally, Maz Kanata.
Keri Russell as Zorri Bliss

Will Chewie finally avenge the late Han Solo?

He is seen in the trailer with Rose and Lieutenant Connix.

Lourd gave permission for Lucasfilm to use unused footage of her mother in the film.

British thespian Ian McDiarmid reprises his role as the galaxy's evil incarnate in the final instalment of the Skywalker saga.
Has Palpatine been pulling the strings of Snoke and the Dark Side all along?

The star of the original trilogy is back for the final chapter and joins the fight against the First Order and the Dark Side once last time.
He will also fly his old ship the Millennium Falcon in the new episode.
