Mark Hamill has shared a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at a famous Star Wars scene being filmed.
The actor, who plays Luke Skywalker in the beloved franchise, posted the image on Instagram. It shows him stood next to Han Solo star Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977).
In the photo, he can be seen holding hands with his co-star while rehearsing the scene in which the characters receive medals from Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) at the end of the film.
Providing some previously unknown context behind the scene, Hamill wrote:“It was Harrison’s idea to hold hands so our movements would be consistent & Carrie's eye line would match up.”
The 69-year-old actor added: “Other than this moment, we hardly ever held hands.”

In response, Joonas Suotamo – who played Chewbacca in the sequel trilogy –quipped: “Knowing this, I appreciate you holding my hand even more now.”
Hamill reprised his role for the sequel trilogy and, most recently, for the final episode of The Mandalorian season two in a surprise that viewers branded “amazing”.
Following the episode, Hamill was left blindside by praise heaped upon him by his co-star Ming-Na Wen, who described it as “one of the highlights of [her] life” to share the screen with him.
In the series, Wen plays Fennic Shand and will next be seen in Disney+ TV show The Book of Boba Fett, which arrives this winter.
