Star Wars: Kelly Marie Tran returns in Disney+ special despite Rise of Skywalker controversy

A new Star Wars project has reunited many of the franchise’s actors

The Disney+ special, which is now available to stream, has brought back many beloved characters for a new adventure.

One actor who has returned to a galaxy far far away is Kelly Marie Tran, a move that further proves she has no hard feelings with Disney or Lucasfilm despite fans’ claims that the franchise underused her character in most recent film, The Rise of Skywalker.

For LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, Tran provides the voice work for her character Rose Tico, who was first introduced in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi.

She is joined by Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and a handful of voice stars from animated series The Clone Wars.

Many fans were left furious by Tran’s limited screen time in JJ Abram's Rise of Skywalker, which was released in December 2019.

She had just 76 seconds of screen time, which was a huge reduction from her main role in the previous film.

Some people suggested this was due to fear of a backlash from trolls who previously forced Tran to quit social media after intense harassment from people who disliked her character.

However, Tran herself was just happy to be involved, telling MTV’s Josh Horowitz: “At the end of the day, I got to be part of something bigger than me, and that’s really special.”

LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is available to stream on Disney+ now alongside the first four episodes of The Mandalorian season two.
