Star Wars Episode 9 won't be the last you see of sequel trilogy characters

The Skywalker saga is about to come to a dramatic conclusion later this year.

The much-anticipated Star Wars episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker recently released its trailer, teasing the importance of Rey (Daisy Ridley), the battle against the First Order and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and the return of Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).

While this is seen as the conclusion of a nine-film saga, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the film won't be the last we see of the newer trilogy's characters.

"You know, there is an appropriate time," Kennedy told MTV News. "We're using this appropriate time as an opportunity to see where we're going now that we're leaving the Skywalker saga behind."

This leaves the possibility open of sequel trilogy characters such as Finn, Poe Dameron, Rose Tico and maybe even Rey open to return - unless Rey is secretly a Skywalker.

Star Wars Episode 9 trailer: Biggest questions after Skywalker teaser

"There's no question that there's certain characters that we've created, certainly in the last three movies, that we may very well wanna see down the line in the future."

The comments would appear to rule out a return for villainous Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo, however, given his Skywalker heritage.

In addition to potential trilogies in the pipeline from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and from the creators of Game of Thrones, we will also be getting television series The Mandalorian and one on Cassian Andor.

So Star Wars is going nowehere.

Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
