Star Wars Episode 9 trailer: Biggest questions after Skywalker teaser

Every generation has a legend.

The time has finally arrived for the end of the Skywalker saga, and end it shall with the arrival of the final instalment of the sequel Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars Episode 9 title: Episode IX is called The Rise of Skywalker has been revealed as The Rise of Skwalker.

The Star Wars Episode 9 trailer: Footage and title revealed as Palpatine returns was finally unveiled at Star Wars Celebration and shows off some of what we can expect from the final instalment.

From Star Wars 9: Emperor Palpatine actor Ian McDiarmid teases strength of Dark Side to an emotional posthumous appearance from Carrie Fisher, there was a number of big scenes to talk about.

The trailer did, of course, leave us with a number of tantalising questions for the ninth episode in the main Star Wars series of films.

Here are some of the biggest queries we have after seeing the trailer.

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker trailer questions

Who is this generation's legend?

Okay, so this could apply to the sequel trilogy as a whole, but it sounds like it is meant to be in regards to an individual.

The most likely candidate is Rey, given that she is now the best hope for the light side of the Force in the galaxy, and Luke's voiceover mentions how "a thousand generations live in" someone now.

Given this is over shots of Rey, it is likely about how she is the last to teach the knowledge of the Jedi.

However, given that she is attacked by Kylo Ren in his ship soon after, it could be about Ben Solo after all.

He is also the last Skywalker, after mother General Leia Organa.

What sand planet is that?

There is a lot of a sand planet in the trailer - is it the classic planet of Tattooine or a return to Rey's home planet of Jakuu?

Or could we be seeing both planets?

Or could this be a new planet entirely?

Where has Lando Calrissian been?

So the classic trilogy favourite Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) is back and in the Falcon jumping to lightspeed with Chewie at his side - and having a ball too.

But where has the former General of the Rebel Alliance been in this time?

And how and why is he back helping his old friend Chewbacca again?

Is that medal from A New Hope?

Reminders of A New Hope (LUCASFILM)

Fans have spotted that a gold object being held by what looks like the hands of Leia in the trailer looks a lot like the medals that the Princess awarded Han Solo and Luke Skywalker at the end of Star Wars: A New Hope for their bravery.

Whose is she holding if that is one of the medals?

Where are Rey and Leia embracing?

In one of the trailer's standout moments, we see Rey and Leia embracing on a jungle-like planet, with a tear rolling down Rey's cheek.

It is definitely an emotional scene, doubly so as fans are still mourning the loss of star Carrie Fisher.

But where and why does this emotional scene take place?

And what unused footage of Fisher was this taken from?

Star Wars Episode IX: J J Abrams says Leia scenes are "mind-blowing"

What planet is the Death Star ruin on?

Blast from the past (LUCASFILM)

The ruins that Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, C3-PO, and BB-8 are confronted with on a desolate planet appear to belong to a Death Star.

It is more likely to be the second one that exploded near the moon of Endor, so could we be back there after Return of the Jedi?

Equally, the cackling of Emperor Palpatine over this will suggest we will return to the sight of the arch-villain's death.

How is Emperor Palpatine back?

So we now know that the master villain is back, but how?

Could he return as a Force Ghost akin to other force-powered individuals?

Could he have somehow survived?

Or will we see another dastardly method for the the return of Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid)?

Who is the Skywalker?

The title teasers the rise of a singular Skywalker.

Could someone be returning from the dead such as Luke Skywalker?

Or could this refer to the rise in strength of one of the living Skywalkers?

Still alive in the franchise are General Leia Organa and Kylo Ren aka Ben Solo.

Or could this be about a secret Skywalker - possibly Rey?

So many questions, but we have quite a wait for answers!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
