Star Wars: Disney confirms release of final The Rise of Skywalker trailer

Disney has confirmed the release date for the final trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

On Twitter, the corporation announced that the trailer will drop Monday night in the US, specifically during Monday Night Football on the ESPN network.

It will presumably debut online shortly after.

Starring returning cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, The Rise of Skywalker is the final entry in the current Star Wars trilogy.

JJ Abrams, who directed 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has also returned to close the trilogy.

Late last month, Abrams denied speculation that his return to the director’s chair was a response to the backlash aimed at 2017’s The Last Jedi, which was directed by Rian Johnson.

“I never found myself trying to repair anything,” Abrams said. “If I had done [The Last Jedi], I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done [The Force Awakens].”

He continued, “If you come back into it, you have to honour what’s been done.”

It has also been claimed that The Rise of Skywalker will be driven by the “complicated relationship” between Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, the film’s co-screenwriter Chris Terrio said that their dynamic will fuel the tension at the heart of the film.

“Some of the most interesting scenes in The Last Jedi are the conversations between Rey and Ren, [and] we’ve tried to pick up that complicated relationship that really has been present ever since the interrogation in [The Force Awakens].”

Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker will be released 16 December.
