Star Wars' Daisy Ridley would be Mel C's choice to play her in Spice Girls biopic

Daisy Ridley has the power of the force... so Mel C wants the Star Wars actress to play her in a Spice Girls biopic.

The pop group had been discussing making a sequel to their 1997 film Spice World: The Movie - but Mel, who admits her acting skills hadn’t quite been honed at the time, is planning for a biographical film insead.

She says: “I feel like it’s a really good time to explore a biopic, especially after seeing Queen’s one, and Rocketman was amazing.

“The Spice Girls’ story and music would really work in that genre.”

But Mel has no plans to feature, personally.

“I don’t want to see this face on a big screen,” she laughed.

“Someone said Daisy Ridley would be a good Sporty.”

Spice boss Simon Fuller had been planning an animated film, and teased a biopic similar to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody or Elton John’s Rocketman.

“When you have real life stories that brilliant, no one can write that stuff,” he said in 2019.

Meanwhile, Mel says seeing Little Mix star Jesy Nelson quit her group was an emotional “trigger” as it reminded her so much of the “difficult” period when Geri Horner leaving the Spice Girls in 1998.

So the biopic will be a difficult watch - although some might argue the same could be said of Spice World.

Mel jokes the group are “emotionally blackmailing” Victoria to come back after she sat out their 2019 UK tour, and insists her bandmate would be “on board” if they were to perform at Glastonbury festival.

“I’m seeing five people on stage,” grinned Mel, on the Zach Sang show in the US.
