Star Wars actor pursued through Highlands by road rage maniac

A Star Wars actor blown out of the sky by Darth Vader has told how he was pursued through the Highlands by a road rage maniac.

Hollywood legend Angus MacInnes was chased by Roderick Webster on July 18 last year after he honked his horn at him for driving slowly on the A9 in Perthshire.

Enraged Webster followed MacInnes – who had his wife and young child in the car – on to a quiet B-road, overtook MacInnes and then braked sharply in front of him, forcing him to stop.

Fuming Webster then confronted MacInnes, swearing and threatening violence.

Angus shot to fame playing Gold Leader Jon “Dutch” Vander in the original Star Wars, where he was killed in the iconic Death Star attack.

He told of his ordeal during a trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

The court heard the Canadian-born actor had been bringing his wife and a child back from a break in the Highlands when they hit traffic on the A9.

The 73-year-old, who lives in Edinburgh, told the trial: “I had to slow down to 40 or 45mph.” The traffic continued to be held up for a period by the 16-year-old Citroen Berlingo.

Angus, who also appeared in River City as Sonny Munro, an oil baron and love interest for Roisin McIntyre, said vehicles started to pull out to overtake the Citroen and he pulled up alongside it and saw Webster, 58, at the wheel. He admitted honking his horn in frustration.

Shortly after, he pulled off the road on to the B8079 between Bruar and Blair Atholl.

But Webster followed and overtook them before braking harshly in front of their Honda CR-V, forcing him to stop.

Angus told the court he was concerned when he then saw the other driver getting out. He said Webster was swearing at him as well as threatening him with violence.

Webster had denied driving dangerously and breaching the peace during the incident.

However, he was found guilty of careless driving and of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm, by acting aggressively, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

Webster, of Aviemore, was fined £600 and had six penalty points added to his licence.
