Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels wanted C-3PO to be killed off in Episode 9

He's been a constant in the Star Wars saga since the beginning.

With the release of original film Star Wars (later entitled A New Hope) in 1977, the world met talkative protocol droid C-3PO, portrayed by Anthony Daniels.

Now, having appeared across almost all of the Star Wars films including the new ninth episode The Rise of Skywalker, Anthony Daniels has revealed he wanted to have a very final goodbye to C-3PO.

Speaking to The Huffington Post UK , Daniels revealed: "Before filming this, it seemed like the writers had slightly run out of steam with C-3PO."

He added: "I didn't want him to just become a wall decoration.

"I thought he should have a big send-off or send-off that gave you finality, and of course, at the time, JJ [Abrams, the director] said, 'No way'."

But does C-3PO get the ending he deserves?

We'll have to wait and see as The Rise of Skywalker hits cinemas at Midnight (December 19).

C-3PO is seen to seemingly bidding an emotional farewell to his friends Rey, Poe, Finn, and co in some of the trailers, so indeed.

The film also stars Daniels' fellow original trilogy actors including the late Carrie Fisher , Mark Hamill , Ian McDiarmid , and Lando Calrissian actor himself Billy Dee Williams.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
